Telegram Spoiler Formatting: How to Blur Text & Media

Learn how to use Telegram spoiler formatting (||spoiler||) to hide text behind an animated shimmering particle effect and blur photos or video previews.

Quick Guide: Telegram SpoilersSyntax Summary

To create a spoiler on Telegram, wrap your text in double vertical bars: ||hidden text||. Alternatively, select your text in the chat input, open the formatting popup menu (or press Ctrl+Shift+P / Cmd+Shift+P on desktop), and click Spoiler. Telegram covers the text with an interactive shimmering pixel animation that reveals upon clicking. For photos and videos, tap the three dots in the media picker and select Hide with Spoiler.
